Established in 2012 with support from the Department of Children & Youth Affairs, the project operates under regulations made by Minister Fitzgerald in November of last year. The website launched earlier today and includes the first 30 reports of cases observed and examined by the project. The Minister said that every year in Ireland there are over 1,500 confirmed reports of abuse and neglect of children, and this website will work to highlight this 'everyday reality'. “The courts play a vitally important role in child protection and welfare, and the decisions of Judges have significant implications for service provision and children’s outcomes," she added. Minister Fitzgerald said she was delighted access was now being made available to quality reports on the workings of the courts and on matters such as statistical trends and different approaches adopted by the courts.
