![]() A County Galway based take away was among 15 food related businesses served with closure orders from the Food Safety Authority (FSA) in August. The Village Kitchen, situated in Kilkerrin, Ballinasloe, Galway was served with the closure order under the EC (official control of foodstuffs) regulations 2010. Chief Executive of the FSAI, Professor Alan Reilly, expressed his disappointment at the lack of vigilance by some owners in ensuring their food businesses were fit for purpose and fully compliant with food safety legislation. “The legal onus is on food businesses to ensure that the food they serve is safe to eat in accordance with the legislation. There is absolutely no excuse for negligent practices,” Prof. Reilly said. Prof. Reilly added that the FSAI was continuously encountering cases involving improper storage of foodstuffs and poor cleaning and sanitising. He said that such breaches are completely avoidable when food businesses have proper food safety management systems in place.
