UK Retailer Marks and Spenser (M&S) has announced plans to close four stores in the Republic with the loss of 180 jobs following a company review.
Major locations including Mullingar, Tallaght and Dun Laoghaire will close their doors, along with the company's Simply Food store based in Naas, Co. Kildare.
However M&S have said that plans for a new flagship store in Limerick is still in the pipeline and is now at proposal stage.
The Limerick store could create employment in the city for up to 250 and is at the proposal stage. The Limerick store is expected to open in 2016.
The announcements come as part of a review by M&S of its Irish based stores.
