SAN FRANCISCO: A man who works to improve the lives of San Francisco's youth through sport has been shortlisted for a special recognition award.
Nate Ford, Citywide Athletics Director at the Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco oversees the athletic programs at all nine of San Francisco's Boys and Girls Clubs. The Dependable Leader Awards in association with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) and Maytag recognize club professionals and volunteers who are committed to making a difference in the lives of youth, and are dependable and exceptional role models. Nate's programs help youth members achieve their academic potential and show good character and sportsmanship. They girls Sports Day, and citywide sport events like Pitch, Hit and Run and Junior Olympics. For 25 years Nate has modeled the philosophy "learning to play and playing to learn." He understands the power of athletics and he mentors young athletes across gang lines, helping downplay rivalries while focusing on athletic and academic potential.
